Passed away peacefully at Lisaard House, Cambridge, after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October 24, 2011, Bernard F. Downey of Kitchener, formerly of Bell Island, Newfoundland, at the age of 67.
Beloved husband of Diana (nee Fisher) for 46 years. Loving father of Bernie Downey (Julie) of Kitchener and David Downey of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Cherished Papa of Jordan, Tyler, Matthew, and Nathan. Dear brother of Gertrude, Kathleen, Margaret, Joan, John, and Edward. Bernie will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Kathleen and Bernard Downey; siblings, Dorothy, Kevin, Brian, Patricia, Mary, Jean, and Cecilia.
Bernie taught accounting at Conestoga College for 30 years. He was a true family man and will be dearly missed.
Bernie’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, (519-749-8467). Prayers will be offered in the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 8:45 pm and again on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 9:45 am followed by a procession to Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church, 305 Laurentian Dr., Kitchener, for Bernie’s Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Wayne Lobsinger officiating. Cremation to follow.
Interment later in Williamsburg Cemetery.
