In gratitude for my big sister

Our Mom liked to tell the story about the time when I was a baby, crying inconsolably. Cathy told her she could make me feel better. So Mom went about her work, and after a while realized that the crying had stopped. Indeed, Cathy had figured out how to solve the problem, having reasoned that what made the dog happy would make me happy too. And she was right. So there I was, munching happily on the bone that she had lovingly dug up from the garden. That is Cathy - always finding a way to support me. Whenever I failed, she would reassure me that there is no, one way to do something. When I did something stupid, she would remind me that there are no wrong decisions. Some may take us to places we had not anticipated; but that is all part of the journey. Always generous and understanding, never judging or jealous, Cathy always wanted the best for me. I am very grateful. Of course there are so many things I will miss: walks, talks, exploring new places, Scrabble games, crosswords, sunsets on Flowerpot Island, good food, good stories, laughs and tears. But nothing can take away the many happy times we shared. And I know that in her own unconventional way she will always find ways to continue to be there for me - in dreams, memories, reflections, and through her continuing presence. I will continue to feel her spirit helping me to be a little more compassionate and a little more adventurous, and to make the most of each moment as it comes. A spirit as large as hers cannot be stifled.
