Fond Memories of Uncle Don

My strong and fond memories of Uncle Don stem from two locations: St Matthews Church and Maryhill. As a boy sitting in church and listening to the choir, Uncle Dons voice resonated strongly. I remember wondering how the male choir all sounded so much like him! A master of ceremony, it was always a warm feeling when he, and Amy, would lead a caroling session at Christmas. Visits to family in Maryhill...i have early childhood memories of exploration with Uncle Don climbing on the big rock beside the house, and walking back to the creek. Always a great meal to be shared together around the dining table. Uncle Don had such a gift for recollection, his telling of these same memories would be so much richer than mine! He often recounted the time my brothers and I paraded Amy around as the Princess of the North. The strength of his memory, and his command of measures like time and distance always made conversation interesting with my Uncle. Memories of the grace of the host in Maryhill and those family times are fond treasures!
