The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Lynn Matthews can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: Christine (Chris) Corston
Condolence: Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Lynn Matthews. He was a major influence on my professional life in librarianship. I spent almost half of my career at KPL under his leadership, during the 1970s and 80s, and have so many wonderful memories of him. He liked a good laugh, and one of our ongoing chuckles was that he would often receive mail addressed to “Ms. Lynn Matthews” because people assumed “Lynn” would be a female, while I would get mail for “Mr. Chris Corston”, because the assumption was made that “Chris” must be a male. He encouraged me through many different roles and positions at KPL over the years, and his encouragement and example stood me in good stead throughout the rest of my career.

His was indeed a well lived life!

Condolence: Many memories of Mr Matthews who hired me in 1976 as I was graduating from U of T. With his support and encouragement, I was able to work with Grace Schmidt, and eventually the Grace Schmidt Room of Local History became a reality. I owe them both a huge debt of gratitude for my career.

Condolence From: Nancy E. Black
Condolence: My sincere condolences to the family of Lynn Matthews. As a university student I worked at KPL for two summers in a row in the late 1970s. With two other students we spent the summer traveling to parks to deliver children’s programs: story telling, songs, puppet plays...best summer job EVER!! I am still in contact with a few of the former employees... my aunt, Lois Black, was also a librarian at KPL... which is my other connection with this library. I remember that Mr. Matthews was a very warm, kind and friendly person, and of course, passionate about libraries. Again, please accept my condolences
