Heart of Gold

Kerry Loved Golf. He was instrumental in assisting myself and my husband to create the new event for Schwaben Best Ball Golf Tournament 7 years ago. We started with only 11 of us. Kerry would say " don't worry this tourney will grow" . So I kept remembering his words and inspiration while planning and the next Golf Tournament and it had grown! This year we are renaming the Golf Tournament in his memory with proceeds to a charity of his family's choice. Many times my husband William and Kerry have practiced their Golf playing at Rockway Golf Course. Kerry heart and kindness was larger than life itself, he touched many lives. Each year in September a "Landestreffen" trip is planned to travel to another Schwaben Club to celebrate the heritage -each year it would be a different host club-that year in U.S.A - Kerry would make sure he is signed up with all of us from Kitchener's Club. Many members in all of the Donauschwaben Clubs in U.S.A knew who Kerry was. Some friends of ours from the Chicago & St. Louis clubs had contacted me and send their condolences for Kerry's family. The road trip with myself and Andy to Cincinnati's Landestreffen in Sept 2017 was so much fun! We made a side trip to Cleveland's Rock n Roll Hall of Fame on the way. Kerry was in his element when he saw so many guitars and music; we found out who all his favourite musicians were. Kerry was a patient man with a smile on his face, he would wait while we shopped for a few more souvenirs after he got a few himself. Kerry also did a road & ferry trip across Lake Michigan to Milwaukee's Landestreffen with my husband William in 2014. The roomed together at the hotel also and had a blast. I still remember how our bus arrived late Friday nite at Milwaukee's Club and Kerry was already there with Will and Kerry said, " everyone is here from Kitchener-let's get this celebration started". Kerry would always be invited for carpooling with many different members and a large bus would follow. It was really nice that this past year Sept 2018-Kitchener's club hosted Landestreffen and Kerry welcomed all the U.S.A clubs here in his hometown at our club. Kerry was a members of Kitchener Schwaben Club since 2006. Everyone who knew Kerry, will always remember how special he was. Heidi Peller-Oliver and William Oliver
