John was a special man and a wonderful friend to my father Norman Lightfoot (passed july16) as well as to myself. I got to know John as a friend while we worked on the original butterfly house and gardens. I've not known a more selfless and giving person and our lives are left with a space no o e else could fill. Fly with the butterflies John

He was Mr. Powers to me. John was my fourth grade teacher in what was known as the "junior complex" at St. Paul's. He was loved by all the kids for his great sense of humour, and of course those butterflies. RIP, Mr. Powers.

John accepted an invitation to speak at the Waterloo Coin Society meeting January 10, 2006 and made a great impression on the members and guests in attendance, speaking for nearly an hour! It was clear that one of John's passions was Butterflies but he also actively sought to acquire just about anything with one of his beloved flying jewels on it. He will be missed by the untold numbers of people he touched including many in the numismatic community.

A more genuine and noble soul we would be hard-pressed to find. A gentleman's gentleman. A giving man and an example of the best of what humanity can muster. I will miss his gentle nature and zeal for living and enjoying the little things that surround us.
On butterfly's wings, I'll remember him.

Dear John: You were bigger than life to so many people. Every December I could look out on my veranda and see the biggest poinsettia plant. I remember you stopping by with another plant in the Spring and suddenly saying "Hold this a sec" you would throw open your trunk and whip out the butterfly net and go chasing a rare butterfly. I think they naturally followed you around. John, you always had the most wonderful marketing ideas and a heart full of excitement. Enjoy those bugs and butterflies and plant life in heaven.
