We would often meet for lunch. Sarah would try to treat, and as a father of three girls who is unaccustomed to being treated at outings, I sometimes let her. She was a great lunch buddy. I will miss her. The first time I took her to lunch, we went to a diner. I ordered a burger, and Sarah got one of the few vegetarian options available, a single slice of yellow cheese on white bread. This lead to our tradition of going to a wonderful Indian restaurant, which had so many options, that even I didn’t eat meat there. We would have long talks before and after the food was served. We talked about art and painting, the job, and whatever else was on the table, both literally and metaphorically. I would talk about my kids and complain about politics, my health, music, food, gardening, and my feeble attempt at growing grapes. Sarah was a great listener. I will miss her I canceled our last luncheon date with the intention of rescheduling for this week, after the end of classes. I will miss her.
