Shirley Mary  Gutenberg (Gutenberg)
Gutenberg, Shirley;
With great sadness, the family of Shirley Gutenberg announces her death on April 22, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 75 years. While Shirley's illness and passing were sudden and unexpected, she passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by her children, Gillian (James) and Garth (Maria) and her husband Fritz Scheffler. She is mourned by her step-sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Ann Marie, and Rolf and Sharon and grandchildren, Lindsay and Michael and great-grandson, Coleton. Shirley is survived by siblings Ron (Rosalind), Pat, Joanne (Ray), Geoff (Marianne) and Kelly (Shannon). She is predeceased by her father Joseph, her mother Florence, her brother-in-law Tom and her brother Gerald. She is greatly missed by her many family members and friends in Canada and abroad.
Shirley was born on February 2nd, 1944, in Revenue, Saskatchewan. She became a Registered and Psychiatric Nurse in Ponoka, Alberta. As a 40+ year veteran of psychiatric nursing, she touched the lives of many in need throughout her extensive career. She served in front-line clinical care, nursing and clinic management, and nursing education in both Canada and the U.S. She has reached those in need in hospitals, clinics, prisons and outreach settings.
We are shocked and broken-hearted to have lost Shirley - treasured mother, wife, sister, aunt, colleague, neighbour and friend, but we celebrate her beautiful life and spirit:, her vibrance and positivity, her unending kindness and generosity, and her incredible love of life will inspire and strengthen us as we cherish her memory.
Shirley's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
