Passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 86.

Beloved husband of Ivy.

Dearly loved Dad of Gregory and Michelle (Dave).

Cherished grandpa and great-grandpa to Kyle, Jessica, Tavish, Tyler and Kaden.

Predeceased by his parents Louis and Adrienne VanderZanden and his sister Helen O'Connor and her husband Terry.

Lovingly remembered by his his sisters Loretta (Bob predeceased) Lefave, Mary (Louis predeceased) Nappa, Diane (Gus) McIsaac, Elizabeth (Jerry) Sokolik, Linda (Tom) Holgate.

He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dearly loved by his in-laws Annette, Larry (predeceased), Wayne (Adrienne predeceased), Greg and Madeline, and Jan and Anthony.

George was ordained to the priesthood on June 29,1961, and was laicized by Pope Paul VI in 1970. He worked most of his life as a religion consultant at the Waterloo County Separate School Board. George had the voice of an angel and enjoyed singing in the choir at Blessed Sacrament until recently. He was so grateful that he lived long enough to enjoy his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George's family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Prayers will be held at the funeral home at 2:45 p.m. Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church 305 Laurentian Dr. Kitchener, Ontario N2E 2N6 on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with reception to follow. Private cremation has taken place. Interment will be held in Windsor at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to a Trust Fund for George's great-grandchildren - Tyler and Kaden (cheques payable to Ivy VanderZanden) or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
