Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at Telfer Place, Paris, Ontario at the age of 96.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late John Willing.
Loving mother to Carol Moyer, David (Karen) and Mark Willing.
Special grandma to Jonathan (Nicole), Sean and Aaron Willing and David (Erika) and Eric Moyer.
Great-grandma to Declan and Evita Moyer and Miles Willing.
Also survived by her sister Helen Weeks and sisters-in-law Eva Willing and Mary Willing.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Joe and Mary Fodi, and her son-in-law Jim Moyer.
Irene was a lovely, kind, generous person to all who were blessed to know her. Irene was the heart of her family. In her gentle way she was always there to help us all.
Irene was keenly interested in the world around her, as evidenced by her TV news watching and newspaper reading. Her favourite past time was reading and hearing stories about her grandchildren.
Irene spent her childhood in Woodstock. She married John in 1944 and when he returned from England, after the war they moved to Kitchener. After raising her family, Irene was employed at Woeller Fabrics, a job she loved where she worked with fabrics making up sample books. She had a gift for organization and an amazing eye for colour.
For the last two years of her life, Irene lived at Telfer Place, close to her daughter Carol.
Irene's family will receive relatives and friends from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019, followed by a Memorial Liturgy in the chapel of the funeral home, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Woodland Cemetery, follows the reception.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Kids Can Fly - Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which encourages reading by giving free books to children ages birth-five or St. Mary's Hospital Foundation would be appreciated (cards available at the funeral home).
