Dear Marie — It breaks my heart to know that you are now gone and that I will not see you again in our neighbourhood. I miss you so very much. The neighbourhood is not the same without you. I miss our daily 10:00 a.m. phone calls and afternoon visits. I miss your smiling face, good cheer, positive demeanor, egg salad sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches at Kypreos, cups of coffee, tea, and cookies too. Whenever I see the colour purple, I think of you ... I know purple was your favourite colour. The past year was a difficult one for you. The loss of your son Darrell and best friend Peggy was more than you could bare. Your failing health, loss of weight and memory was troubling and frightening for you; and yet while at home you found the strength to get out of bed and start each day with a smile. Marie, thank you so much for the times we shared; the comfort, guidance and love you gave me when Don passed away so suddenly. Thank you for the times we shared when I retired; — our lunches and suppers together; your interest in my life, health, family and pets; our afternoon visits in your or my backyards; our walks around the neighbourhood with my dog Mickie; our many shopping excursions to Giant Tiger, Walmart, Reitmans, Home Depot, Lowes and Central Meat Market; our visits to Peggy’s house; lunches at restaurants; and the fun times we had dancing at the Briethaupt Centre’s Senior Events. We both believed in life after death and often talked about it. I do believe you are now in a better place. I guess you know. You are free of your failing body. I wish you well and much happiness in the spirit realm. Someday when my time comes to cross over, I will look for you and we will meet again ... until then please know that I love you and miss you so very much. Please say hi to my Don for me and give him my love. Thank you for being you, and for being a part of my life here on Edwin Street. With love, Joan
